Topics:weaningplavix

Had a brain-stem ischemic stroke 5 yrs ago, been on Plavix since.  I am now much healthier, a normal weight, athletic and have adopted a whole-grain, plant-based, no-oil eating plan.   How do I safely wean off Plavix?

Thanks!

ask your doctor, he probably doesn't know that answer either.  I take Plavix & I've never had a doctor take me off anything unless I get allergic to it & if you are on a mecicine long enough it will happen.  I've quit them cold turkey and I'm still here....If you really think you need to quit, talk it over with your doctor, of course he will try to put you on something else, talk to him about that too.....

Thanks for your reply.  There was a study done which showed a 90-day rebound effect when quitting Plavix.   Something like 50% of the participants had a heart-attack within 90 days of quitting Plavix.    Many drugs have rebound effects, clonidine, for example.  It is very dangerous to quit them cold turkey.  So be careful when quitting anything.  Talk to your docs and pharmacists first!!!!!!
