    HI Peacechild554:

Our heart rate varies all the time.  Yes, this is quite a swing to go from 80 down to 38.  Sometimes people have skipped beats and it makes it seem like the heart rate is slow, because the skipped beats are not felt.

Say your heart is beating at 80 beats a minute and then you have a skipped beat every other beat.  Now you feel you pulse and its 40.

The key thing is to see if you have symptoms:  fatigue, weakness, fainting, light headed.

A 24 hour ECG can determine the cause of these abnormal swings in HR if they happen everyday.

Contact your doctor, they can direct you to the proper diagnostic tests and treatment.

    Hope this helps

I did do this Monday and returned on Tuesday of this week, just waiting on the results, but it scares me so when this happens. I have a blood pressure/ pulse monitor that goes on my wrist that I have been checking it by.See, I am 38, started having tightness in the chest, tingle up both arms to my neck and jaw, then break out in a horrible cold sweat. I went to my doc and he sent me to a heart doc. At the heart doc office, I started having an attack and he gave me nitro. Felt better that I have in weeks. Put me straight over in hospital, run camera next day and sent me straight to Emory and put in 4 Im so scared that my pulse is doing this because this whole episode was such a shock, I dont know if one of my new 7 meds is doing it or I have something else wrong and I'm turning into a basket case just waiting. Thank you so much for your reply. My emotional roller coaster is working over time now.
