Q: Does different bp's in left/right arm always mean a sub-clavin blockage?

In regards to having different bp in left and right arm. I am a female and 48 yrs of age. I had to previsous stents (1)LDL and (1) on the rightside of the heart. I also have (2) sub-clavin stent. The bp in has good and the same for about 2 yrs. The problem has just recurred but the systems are different. The bp is sometimes the same and changes extremely when I do anything that is strenuous. The left arm goes down to about 78/66 and the right increase to 149/ 94. I get a swashing sounds in my left ear and pain in left arm and jaw. I am scheduled for a angiogram on Thursday. Could it be the subclavin stents are blocked or something regarding my heart? And if so can it be restented or will it require surgery

Hi Vicki,

A difference in blood pressure readings between the arms greater than 10 mm Hg is a sign of heart disease, such as a blockage.  However, it's hard to say without an evaluation to determine the cause and what your options will be.  I recommend consulting your physician.

All the best,

I have consulted my physician. Went in the hospital last Thursday for an angiogram had to stop the test because of a reaction to the contrast dye. I have been reschedule for this Thursday. I have to pre-med before the procedure. Just very nervous of what the outcome could be. My real question what could my make my bp go very low on my left and right bp go high. This only happens when I am up and very active. Is this a sign another blockage in the heart or just the sub-clavin. Very cared of having open heart. My first stent was done when I was 36 yrs. it was in the (LDL) I am now 48yrs. Reply
