I have been taking Plavix for 3 yrs following a TIA. Recently my MD took me off of Plavix and said to take a 325 mg aspirin instead. I'm concerned that the aspirin isn't powerful enough and also will cause stomach problems. What do you think?

First of all you need to buy enteric coated aspirin so it does not bother your stomach. I take both Plavix and two 81mg of coated aspirin a day and I have no stomach pain. I have also had a stroke besides heart disease and it was due to a blood clot. I was to have sinus surgery but my cardiologist said no because he said I could not be off the blood thinners that long. The sinus surgeon said the aspirin stays in the system longer and thins the blood more. I hope this helps.
The Doctor's insisted my husband could take 81mg of enteric coated asprin
after having his aortic valve replaced by open heart surgery. He has always
been allergic to asprin, but they said it would not bother him!! Less than 3 weeks of taking it, he had terrible pains & almost ended up in the hospital!!
Do you think he could take plavix???
