Q: Skipping Heart

I'm a 47/m about 240 lbs. Ever since I was young I've had a skip or two in my heart beat many times a day. My mother's father had the same thing. It really concerned me when I developed constant tightness in the chest along with lump in the throat and stomach issues this past October.

I went to the ER in November and they did ekg and blood tests and said all was normal. Went to the ER again in December with same symptoms only a little bit more intense. This time they said I had no heart issues but they thought diverticulitus and prescribed anti-inflammatory and anti-biotic.

I went to the local clinic last Tuesday and the Dr gave me Prilosec for acid reflux and sent me for blood tests to test ldl, hdl cholesterol and other fun stuff. While writing this, my heart decided to palpitate for about 5 seconds making me sweat and feel like I would have passed out if it kept up but no other symptoms after. Immediately after the palpitations my pulse was around 82, normally around 60. Now, after about 10 minutes it seems to be back down around 66. I've asked the doctors about the heart skipping and they tell me not to worry unless it is a constant thing.

He mentioned he may be sending me for a stress test this week after he goes through my ER records. I glanced at them and the ekg seems wierd with the odd spikes in the beat.

Hi Bridog,

You should talk to your physician about your recent episode.  Here is some information about palpitations and arrhythmias that you may find helpful.
