Q: Treatment after heart attack

My husband is now 52 and works as a welder fabricator. He had a heart attack at age 42, had angioplasty and two stents put in one of his main heart arteries in the front. Has been on various drugs like statins, beta blockers, blood pressure control meds, antidepressants, med for RLS, and high dose aspirin ever since. He had a heart attack five days ago. Doc's did angioplasty and found two compltely blocked blood sources at the bottom of the heart that has new vessels growing that are bypassing the blockages but not enough blood flow through them, plus one of the stents is almost completely blocked and is suspected as being the site of the heart attack. They sent him home with a nitro pill to take every day. Told him if he has another heart attack, they may consider a bypass. They ordered no other tests. They said they are concerned that his heart rate is so low though. Is it a standard heart disease treatment to find blockages and and do nothing more than prescribe a nitro pill?

Hi Donna,

I recommend looking into a second opinion to make sure the prescribed treatment plan is the best route.

All the best,
