Q: Can a 19 year old female suffer a heart attack?

I am a 19 yo Female, I have alot of heart problems in my family but mostly from the men. I have been having crushing pain in my chest periodically for almost a year now, but have never had any heart problems of my own, Is it possible that Ive suffered a heart attack or that I am experiencing warning signs?

Hi Channingsmom,

While a heart attack at the age of 19 years-old is not common it is still possible.  I recommend being evaluated by your physician to determine the cause of your symptoms.

All the best,

I confirm that, i'm 19 yo female and a week ago i had a heart attack. Probably conected with PFO. No other reasons has been found, i'm slim, withouth any vains problems, though I used to be a smoker before that incident. I had a NSTEMI heart attack with symptoms similar to the men's one:
Pain in the chest, jaw, back, neck, and forehands.

Problems with taking breath, high blood pressure.

Doctors could not believe it even first aid doctor told me that i had neurosisn and gave me a diazepam's injection. Finaly I was taken to the hospital by family and there doctor confirmed (by blood test - troponin level: 0,4 and next day 2.1; normal level is 0.014) that I had had heart attack.

During coronary they found damaged area in my heart and I spent a week in the hospital - now taking drugs to protect myself and in one month time I'm going to have PFO closure by occluder.
