Q: Pain when lying on left side

Hi there, for about a couple of years now,i get a pain like my heart is being squashed/squeezed when i lie on my left side,i can only bear it for about ten minutes,so i just lie on my right side now.My doctor says it's nothing to worry about and it will go away eventually.I smoke about ten a day,and am bit overweight.Don't get much excercise,i'm on computer all the time.I can't believe something that feels so bad for so long can be ok.It hasn't got any worse or better in that time.Any suggestions?Thanx.

Ps when i was in hospital for something else and they examined me,they said it could be muscle related or mild angina. It was them that told me to see my doctor.
