Topics:high blood pressure

I gave birth to my 2nd child 2 and 1/2 weeks ago and through my whole pregnancy my blood pressure was perfect.  From the time I went into labor all the way til now my blood pressure has been really high.  As in 157/102 give or take everytime I take it.  I've been taking it twice a day every day for a week now and the lowest it has come out was 136/99 2 days ago.  I had a normal birth, no c-section.  While I was pregnant I did have a fast heart rate and had that checked out and they told me there was no problem.  It was because of the extra blood pumping in my body because of the baby.  What is causeing my High Blood pressure now??   Michelle, GA                                            P.S. Both my parents have high blood pressure

Hi Michelle:

A number of things could be causing your high blood pressure.  Weight gain, fluid retension, thyroid condition, problems with the hormonal system, kidney problems, and medications are just few.

It's very important to get ahold of your doctor regarding this problem.
