Hi Paula,

Shin pain is pretty common with rigorous excerise.  What you are describing sounds like shin splints, generally caused a new, intense exercise program and can be made worse from shallow arches and older running shoes.  With rest (a day or two off), ice, change of footwear (new shoes with good support), and NSAIDS (if you can tolerate them), your shin pain should resolve.

However, the pain in your left shoulder, neck and jaw is concerning for heart disease.  These symptoms, especially if they occur when you are walking, are classic (and concerning) for heart disease even if you have no chest pain.  Unfortuntely, you really must have these evaluated by a physician as soon as possible; somebody who knows your medical history and can order appropriate tests to make certain of your heart's health.

To your health,

Neil MD
