Thanks for your question.

 

The problem with using any space heater is the possibility that there may be excess production of Carbon Monoxide, a odorless, colorless gas that is very toxic.  Carbon Monoxide binds the hemoglobin in the blood more tightly than oxygen, and therefore cuts down the oxygen in the blood stream.  This would be dangerous to anyone, but especially so in patients with chronic lung disease.

 

All heaters need to be properly vented, as a by product of combustion is carbon dioxide, the same by product of metablolism that we expell with each breath.  Without proper venting, this gas may build up and would be dangerous for anyone, but more critical in patients with COPD.

 

So, to answer your question, the heat itself would be fine, as long as all of the above factors have been taken care of or checked for.
