Tuesday, April 07, 2009 LRB asks

Q: what is an excellant brand of fish oil to take. very confusing. LRB

have high triglycersand cholesterol I am taking Tricor and Prevastatin my Dr. said to try fish oil, but with so many brands out there I am looking for one that you recommend.

Hi LRB,

 

There's no one particular brand I recommend, but let me give you a tip when selecting a fish oil supplement.  Look for one that provides as close to 850 mg of DHA and EPA per 1000 mg of fish oil.  Also, consult your physician about how much fish oil he wants you to supplement.  The general recommendation is 1000 mg per day; however, this level can be higher depending on your physician's recommendation.
