Q: do doctors ever tell a patient he needs a bypass when its totally not necessary

in other words someone i know had a heart cath was told he needs a bypass inside of a week as it was pretty urgent now my freind thinks he is feeling better and is questioning the true need of the bypass surgery. Either by miss diagnosis or perhaps they need to fill a quota of bypasses to keep the $ flowing in

Hi Jrsubman,

A bypass operation is major surgery and would not be recommended lightly.  However, anytime you (or your friend) question a physician's recommendations, there is nothing wrong with getting a second opinion.
