Q: High Cholesteral and Plaque Buildup

I have plaque build up in the right and left arteries of my heart.  7.1% in the right and 5.7% in the left.  How bad is this and what can I do to reverse the process?  What is the best diet for me to be on?  I am overweight, have now quit smoking, and 47 years old.  I also have high blood pressure.  I do not currently take any medications and I would like to control everything with diet and excercise.

Thank you.

Hi LJH,

One option is fish oil.  Studies has shown that within as little as 3 days of beginning a fish oil supplement, the omega 3 fatty acids can penetrate the plaque, reduce the likelihood of plaque rupture, and begin to reduce your risk.  To learn more about omega 3's check out the following posts.
