Lisinopril Patient,   Thanks for your question.  Lisinopril is a blood pressure medication in the category of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme inhibitor (ACE inhibitor).  It blocks the production of a hormone that helps retain water and salts within the kidney, as well as constrict blood vessels.  By blocking this hormone and these actions, blood pressure is lowered.   One of the recognized side effects of lisinopril is a rash.  I would contact your physician as soon as possible and advise him of your situation, and ask his advice on your next steps.  He may ask you to discontinue the medication, and start something new.  Or, he may ask you to stay off medication until he can re-evaluate your pressure.  This will depend on your particular situation, especially your blood pressure readings before starting this medication.   If you are experiencing any difficulty breathing or have swelling of the tongue, throat or face, stop the medication immediately and call your doctor.  This could represent a serious allergic reaction that needs immediate attention.   I hope this has been helpful.   Feel better.   Martin Cane, M.D.
