Q: Heart rate drops suddenly when training

I'm 44 5'6 tall 168lbs , had a stent implant at 40, been training for a marathon, done quite a few halfs. recently on a 17 mile run i noticed my heart rate drop from the jogging 140BPM right down to 90 for 15-30 seconds, then back up to 140 avg, this happened twice in my run. I use a garmin, top of the range, never seen this before. should i be concerned ?thanks

Hi Georgebbc,

I recommend you do contact your doctor. You can always call your doctors office, discuss what you have experienced with your doctor or doctor's nurse, and they can determine if you should come in for an evaluation.

Good luck with your first full marathon!

Thanks Lisa, I need to wait a week normally for an appointment and had a 20 miler scheduled for Saturday, i phoned like you said, his opinion was if there was no other systems (outside my panic :-)) then its was likely the gamin playing up. I've seen the indication disappear once or twice but to drop to a number seemed odd, did my 20 and still here. Thanks for the note

George
