Q: My father-in-law has suffered from a water retention problem for quite some time.

In the last two weeks he has been diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and enlarged prostate. He was hospitalized after taking two diuretics and two courses of antibiotics because fluid built up in his legs until they appeared "raw". They gave him intravaneous lasiks (sp) and now they say he has dilated veins in his legs. What does all this mean?

He's had varicous veins in his legs/ankles for years.  His legs are always much larger than what I would deem normal.  So what's with the cryptic diagnosis of "dilated veins"?

Hi:  water retension can be solely from a prostate problem.  It can also be from heart failure.

Talk to your doctors to find out what they think is the cause.

Good Luck.
