Danise,   Thanks for your question.    Chest pain can be very difficulty to diagnose, especially in diabetics and females, who can manifest heart disease in many more ways than men.  Your discomfort does not sound typical of heart disease, which usually lasts longer than a few minutes.    However, your pain accompanied by the shortness of breath is enough reason to see your doctor for his evaluation of what is going on.  More questions need to be asked and answered as well as undergoing a physical examination and electrocardiogram.  Then your physician will be in a position to determine what is going on.  If your heart is OK, this could be due to muscle spasm in the chest wall or even a gastrointestinal problem.   The bottom line is:  make an appointment to be seen soon.   Best wishes.   Martin Cane, M.D.
