my doctor says (after the artirialgram) that i have less than 20% clogged artery. He said there was no need for a stint. Should I get 1 For longer life and eat well?
Thanks for your question.
Having a 20% blockage of a coronary artery is actually good news. Doctors do not consider a blockage significant enough to warrant a procedure until the blockage is at least 70%. At this level, you do not need a stent. But following a healthy diet and watching your cholesterol numbers is a must from now on. You and your doctor should discuss whether the addition of medication to help lower your cholesterol would be helpful in your situation. Some studies have shown regression of blockages with the use of these medications. Reducing other existing risk factors for heart disease is also essential. These include treatment of high blood pressure, diabetes, and cessation of tobacco.
