Q: I have made myself a doctor's appointment. I am a 47 year old female who has not taken very good care of herself. My family is down to two adult females, as we have lost everyone to heart disease.
My sister and I are the only ones left, and she is now suffering with cervical cancer. My question is this: What do I say to this doctor to get him to take me seriously? I have had troubles with my heart for a few years now, but all I ever get is "it's just stress. I can prescribe you anti-anxiety medicine". I don't want anti-anxiety medicine. I want help so that I can be here for the grand kids. I have tried the "I'm worried about the effect stress is having on my body" route, but since I have a history with anxiety issues, it goes right back to prescribing me medicine for anxiety, and not listening to me when I tell them my physical symptoms. Frustrating. Thank You for listening.
