Q: My heart constantly speeds up and pounds, my chest feels like its going to explode some days.

my dr just keeps blowing me off when I tell him about I cant breathe and I have gained weight and i dont even eat. I cant breathe in the cold weather and I used to exercise now I can barely walk from room to room and I get out of breath!  I will be laying in bed and my heart will speed up and I think its going to explode. He says it sounds fine when he listens to it so he doesnt do anything to investigate further. I do have leaky valves so I am concerned . being 48 and family heart conditions I am more than concerned but I cant go to cardiologist without referrals.

Linda,

I can't say with any certainty what the problem is.  It could be one of several possibilities or a combination of a few.  Certainly a cardiac arrythmia must be ruled out by your doctor(s).  Perhaps your're also retaining some fluid because of the weight gain.  With your history of of leaky valves, further investigation, especially in such a young person is mandatory.

I suggest you find another primary care physician who will listen to you, ask the right questions, examine you and request the proper test and referrals needed.

Best wishes.
