Chest pain, numbness, dizzyness. Can all of this be caused by stress?

Salamat

I've been getting very dizzy lately and I went to the emergency room as I almost fainted.  They did not find anything wrong except my blood pressure is a little bit low.  I tried to get to work the second day and I got very dizzy again, I am now afraid to go to work and faint again.  I do love my work (except for some of the Corporate politics), I did get upset at someone at work when this happened, could all of this be just a cause of stress?

Salamat,

Thanks for your question.  Symptoms should never be blamed on stress until all other possibilities are considered and ruled out.  In your case, you're having chest discomfort, some numbness, dizziness with a feeling of faintness, and low blood pressure.

Many questions have to be asked and answered before your doctor has an idea of what may be going on.  He'll likely perform an EKG (electrocardiogram) and blood work to screen for many possible causes.  Going to the emergency room was a good idea to be sure you're not having a heart attack or other serious, acute problem.  They are great at ruling these illnesses out, and once this is done, it's up to the patient and their physician to further investigate the symptoms.

I suggest you make an appointment with your physician to get to the bottom of what's going on.  The list of possibilities is quite long and, yes, stress is on that list.  But, again, other medical problems need to be checked out.

Best wishes.
