Q: Can You Take Spironolactone If You Are Pregnant?

Hi GNCD68,

 

Spironolactone is a assigned to pregnancy category B by the FDA, some experts argue that is should be category D. This is because there is not data from controlled human studies that show a risk, even though animal studies and retrospective reviews have shown increased risk.

 

I recommend discussing with your physician to weigh the pros and cons of taking the medication while pregnant.
