MY DAUGHTER IS 11 DAYS OLD,DIAGNOSED WITH ATRIAL AND VENTRICULAR SEPTAL DEFECTS. VENTRICULAR IS MILD AND NOT OF SERIOUS CONCERN AS PER THE CARDIOLOGIST/PAEDIATRICIAN, BUT ATRIAL SEPTAL DEFECT IS 5MM AND WILL TAKE TIME TO HEAL.BABY IS BEHAVING NORMALY AS EVERY BABY WILL DO.MY DR HAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS NOTHING TO WORRY,- VENTRICULAR DEFECT WILL CORRECT ITSELF FASTER AND ATRIAL DEFECT WILL TAKE SOME TIME.WE HAVE BEEN ADVICED TO WATCH THE BABY FOR ANY SYMPTOMS LIKE BREATHLESNESS,DIFFICULTY IN FEEDING. BUT AS THE  FATHER OF THE BABY I WISH TO KNOW- PLEASE INFORM WHETHER THIS IS TRUE FOR ALL CASES AND THAT BABY WILL HAVE A NORMAL HEART AND A HEALTHY LIFE.

Ironically today is my son, Jacob's Birthday.  He died of a Ventricular Septal Defect.  He was 3 month's old.  I think this is not mild and should be taken care of immediately.  The Dr heard his heart murmer and took it lightly.  A week later he passed away on Memorial Day of 2008.  A simple ultrasound would have shown his heart condition and more than likely would of saved his life.

Im not sure on how serious your Daughter's condition is, but I definately would do anything I could to change my sons passing.

Im responding on your daughter.  My son had vsd but also had a hernia.  He had all sypmtoms.  I thought he was in pain because of the hernia. had him in an out of the hospital.  Finally they heard a heart defect. well, I had a pediatrition since my 15 year old.  I trusted him.  a week later he died at 3 months.  I would definately try as soon as possible to correct it. So very sorry about your loss.  He died 2 years ago on memorial day.  If you ever want someone to talk to. please feel free to message me.  I have alot of research on the defect so you have any questions at all. please contact me. I also have been looking for support groups and cannot find one.  Ill pray for your daughter.  just keep a very cose eye on her.  there is now a new device that your baby can get so if they do lose to much oxygen, this machine will go off aftr 10 seconds.  take this very serious. my son my be alive if  my dr wasmt so negligent.  Ill pray for you!!!
