    What causes pain in my left side near my rib cage?

    I had very sharp pain on my left side, back behind the rib cage. It comes in waves and was severe for a while, but then became a dull ache. Can anyone help?

    Hi Panda,

    Your pain could be caused by any number of things (disc problems, muscle issues, nerve impingement), or it could be something cardiac related. Any time you have chest pain you should have it checked out immediately. Here is a link to the signs and symptoms of a heart attack.  I recommend you contact your physician to discuss your symptoms.
