Q: is it dangerous to have a pace maker changed could it cause an infection

Thanks for your question.

 

When the doctors change a pacemaker, the wires are usually left in place and the unit, or generator is changed.  Though any surgical procedure carries a risk for infection, this procedure has less risk because it is considered "clean" surgery.  There is no involvement of any mucus membranes and the area involved is easily maintained post-operatively.  Be sure the follow the surgeons directions before and after to surgery to keep this risk low.
