i had a heart attack a little over 3 years ago at age 29 i am a female and until then i had never had heart trouble and i have some questions about the diagnosis i have gotten.I have been diagnosed with chrinoc ischemic heart disease,hyperlipidemia,coronary atherosclerosis, and thrombophlebitis.The cardiolgist i see says this was all only stress related and i am concerned about what all these things are and how bad my condition really is.If someone could get back to me i will be greatful thank you angela edwards

Hi Angela,
I can address the hyperlipidemia. Hyperlipidemia is basically a high level of fat in your blood. This could be a high total cholesterol, high LDL cholesterol, or high triglyceride level. Also, the type of LDL or type of HDL cholesterol plays a role in your heart disease risk.
Here are the recommendations of the American Heart Association:
Total cholesterol less than 200
HDL cholesterol at least > 40, ideally > 60
LDL cholesterol at least less than 130, ideally less than 100
Triglycerides less than 150
A standard lipid panel does not tell you the different types (molecules) of LDL and HDL in your blood. You receive this information from an "expanded lipid profile". Knowing the different types can help you and your physician better assess your risk and what steps to take for prevention.
