Hi HumanBeing,
I encourage you to go to the emergency room as soon as possible for your chest pain. While blue fingernails are not one of the most common symptoms of a heart attack, chest pain is. Since blue fingernails are not normal either, you should definately be checked out by a physician.
Best of luck,
Monica M. Skidmore, MS, RD
Yes, a person can survive a heart attack at a young or old age. It really just depends on the extent and seriousness of the heart attack and the treatment provided. The fast heartbeats you describe may not be a sign of a heart attack though. There are certain cardiac arrhythmias that can cause people to have an irregular heartbeat inconsistently. The only way your physician can actually know your diagnosis is if you are actually having the rapid heartbeat during the ECG or at least while your physician or a nurse is examining you. I encourage you to go the emergency room as soon as the symptoms start so you can properly diagnosed and treated. Here is a link to some information that explains arrhythmias well.
Best of luck,
Monica M. Skidmore, MS, RD
