Q: What defines a "heart condition"

Hi

I am a 43 year old male who was diagnosed March 2009 with a left main artery missing from my aorta to the  heart (it developed into my right artery from the heart during development ) after suffering an unconfirmed silent heart attack.  A emergrency double bypass surgery utilizing mammory arteries corrected the situation. I am entering Phase 3 cardia rehab, currently take lipitor, metroprolol, 81 mg aspirin, alomodine and carry nitro as a precaution. The doctors say that prognosis is very good given my overall health with family history . I will be on lipitor and baby aspirin the rest of my life. My question is with all the issues i just listed, do i have by definition  a "heart condition" for life  or am i just some guy who had an operation who is now fine? This is the way some family members tend to minimize the situation and dismiss it as a big issue that is now laid to rest. It causes me confussion and frustration as to how to look and treat myself.

Thank you for your time

Hi MD,

Here is a link to information on "Understanding Heart Conditions".  The fact that you have experienced a heart attack and bypass surgery is considered a heart condition.

All the best,
