I hade open-heart surgery for this! You have to get an echocardiogram (a sonogram of your heart), not an EKG. I had all the same symptoms that are attributed to precordial catch syndrome (PCS) and the echo quickly showed that my right coronary artery came from the wrong side of the aorta, thus clamping the blood flow.  Notice: echos are expensive (up to $2,000 all-inclusive) so they're only feasible if you have good insurance. Also, I might have been born with PCS and also a congenital heard disorder, so I don't know if the two are linked. In any case, if just one person with this sharp chest pain gets an echo, then everyone in the world who shows the same symptoms will know whether or not they have a heart problem.
