Wednesday, May 11, 2011 Louann asks

Q: My son recently had an ekg which shoew Delta wave. My physician mentioned wolff parkinson white. Is this related to ritalin use?

My doc told me to discontinue his ritalin and concerta. He is very hard to manage even after 3 days. He is 14 and a half years old

Hi Louann,

 

Potential side effects of ritalin include such conditions as arrhythmia or extrasystoles, so it's possible the ritalin has contributed. However, I'm not very familiar with the use of this medication or Wolff Parkinson White so I recommend discussing with your pharmacist and physician further.

 

Also, since it's been recommended you discontinue this medication ask for resources and other treatment options available to you to help with your son.
