Q: I am a 32 year old severely obese smoker with chest, arm,jaw pain but all cardiac testing negative

that is in relatively good health in spite of my weight and smoking. I have been having chest pains that go into my shoulders, down my arms, and up into my jaw for years and have been to the e.r. many times, had ekg's, echo, stress test, and 24 hour holter monitor as recent as a year ago, and thankfully, everything always looks normal with my heart. I do suffer from anxiety, panic, and depression and most of my chest pains have been decided to be from panic/anxiety, chest wall muscles, or even my esophagus. Lately I have been experiencing quite frequent squeezing pains in my left chest as well as left arm pain that can radiate all the way into my hand. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be if it isn't my heart? I am working with a team of docs and nutritionists about my weight as well as to quit smoking so please dont' say "lose weight, quit smoking", because trust me, I already know I need to do that. I just wondered if anyone has experienced similar symptoms and what they were due to. Thanks in advance! :)

Hi Crazymary,

No, I do not have any suggestions on what may be causing your new symptoms if it is not heart related and you've ruled out panic/anxiety attacks. Good luck with your efforts to lose weight and stop smoking. I recommend you continue to investigate these symptoms with your doctor.

All the best,
