Q: I feel weakness in my heart which is accompanied by general weakness.

Hi

I am a 60 years old female. 155cm and 45 kg.

I feel there is pressure on my heart like it is in a small space and is being pressed on. Sometimes this feeling happens while it is with palpitation of 90 and over 100 heartbeats a minute and with shortness of breath. It also involves feeling of general weakness and is accompanied with feeling of hopelessness. It sometimes wakes me up during the night and I have to sit up for a few minutes but the pressure does not go away. It happens several times a day and sometimes it involves chest pain with no pain in the jaw or left arm.

I have never had any history of cardiovascular problems up until 4 years ago and my BP is in normal range. My total cholesterol level is 4.33. I have had gasterectomy 15 years ago and hysterectomy 17 years ago. I also have had constipation for a long time (20 years) it is accompanied by bleeding (My iron level is 10). I have hyperlipepidemia.

I started to have heart problems 4 years ago and around 2 years ago I was diagnosed with Atrial filtration, trivial valve disease and grade 1 left ventricle and had cardiac ablation a year ago. I had these feelings (palpitation and weakness) and pain before ablation procedure. However, the problems did not get better and it is becoming more frequent with more intensity (I can't walk due to feelings of weakness and shortness of breath). I have been to different cardiologist but it was not helpful. Could you please tell me what is happening to me?

Hi Ana,

Unfortunately it sounds like you already have your diagnosis and have tried at least one treatment option - ablation). I think the next option, if you are not already doing this, is to question your physician about possible medications that can help you.

Best of luck,
