Q: my 16 yr old daughter just passed out in school.

She was sitting at her desk during first period and passed out to the floor. She was unconscious for 5 seconds and her limbs had a very lite shaking. When she woke up her head was hurting and her nose was bleeding. She was tested for low blood sugar and dehydration but they were ruled out. Her EKG showed normal signs but they sent her home with a heart monitor for 24 hrs. We just sent the monitor back to CHOP but now have to wait 3 weeks for a visit with the cardiologist. Does anyone know anyone who experienced similiar situation? They seem to be leaning towards some sort of irregular heart beat or something

Hi Liz,

Not a situation I've dealt with so unable to shed any light on what may be the cause. I hope her physicians are able to identify the cause so you can take steps to prevent any future incidents.

All the best,

My niece experienced those same symptoms at about the same age. It was due to hormones. She is older now and no longer experiences fainting spells. I hope that is what your daughter is going through and not something more serious.

Good luck

My neice went through fainting spells at about the same age as your daughter. It turned out to be hormonal caused. I guess it is pretty common with teenagers. I hope that this is all your daughter is going through and not something more serious.

Good luck
