Q: My husband has RBBB and an enlarged heart.

My husband is 58 years old, and has told me for 35 years that he has a heart murmur.  Recently he fainted, and upon seeing his family physician, a halter monitor diagnosed RBBB. An echocardiogram an an x-ray diagnosed mildly enlarged left ventricle with mild left ventricular dysfunction, which appears global in nature. Ejection fraction is approx. 45% to 50%.  No segmental wall motion abnormalities are seen.  Normal diastolic function.  No evidence of left ventricular outlfow tract obstruction or intracavitary gradient. The aortic root is top nomral in size at 37-mm with mild aortic insufficiency.  No pericardial effusion.  Estimated pulmonary artery pressure is within normal limits.

My husband is an avid exercizer, especially on a bicycle.  I'm wondering if his heart enlargement might be a result?  Could you please advise what the echo results indicate, and what questions would be important for us to ask the cariologist.  I've been concerned about the syncope recurring.  Thank you for any info you might be able to provide.....
