Hi Mary,   Thanks for your question. Homocysteine is an is an abnormal protein that is created when a specific amino acid called methionine is metabolized in your blood. Increased levels of this amino acid are associated with increased risks for heart disease and stroke.  Studies have shown that folic acid, B6, and B12 vitamin help in lowering levels of homocysteine. The normal level of homocysteine in the blood of a healthy person should be up to 15 micro mol/L. I hope this helps!   Please check back and let us know how you're friend is doing!
