Q: stent placement after bypass surgery

A family member had bypass surgery and 3 weeks later was admitted to the hospital again with severe chest pains.  Another cath was done and it was found that the vein used in the bypass surgery on the right was much larger than the artery...therefore, blood was not flowing thru the artery quick enough and clotting in the bypass vein.  Medication was tried and 2 days later another cath was done and 5 stents placed into the right carotid artery...is this normal???  Why was a large vein used that was much larger than the artery??

Hello,Im no expet but do have Heart problems your posting say's they put in a Vein Bigger then the artery,i could see if they put in a vein that was Smaller then the artery, that it could possibly clog as there would be less room for blood flow, but i would think that a larger 1 would allow more blood flow,as It has more space then a smaller vein?
