Q: I am trying to raise my HDL over 60 and maintain that level

I had a quad Bi-pass 15 months ago and have controlled My cholesterol levelsI since. My current level were Trig = 75 Chol = 149 HDL 52 LDL 82. I started taking Omega 3 supplements and my numbers changed in one month. Trig = 77 Chol = 133 HDL 45 LDL 74. My HDL went down and I felt that it should have went up. I am also taking Lipitor 80mg and walk at least 30 mins a day... Any advise??? I am currently 49...

Hi Lennyb,

 

Here is a link to information on how to raise HDL - http://www.healthcentral.com/cholesterol/c/42538/42319/tips-raise-hdl.  One of the tips is to increase your intake of omega 3 fatty acids, which you've done.  I recommend evaluating all the diet and lifestyle changes you've made over the past month, such as your activity level and overall fat intake.  If you have reduced your intake of healthy fats too much, this can cause your HDL to decrease even though you've boosted your intake of omega 3's.
