Q: can you put stents in blockages on the front of the heart? If not why?

Recently had an angiogram and it showed 3 blockages on the front of my heart. Dr said stents would be too dangerous and I would need open heart surgery. I am now taking Plavix and using a transdermal nitro patch. I'm still having chest pain on a regular basis (daily). How long would I stay on Meds before I would actually need surgery. Blockages are in the "Y" area, 70%. 60% and 50%.
