Q: 22 yr old man severe chest pain.

Approximately six months ago I was hit in the chest with a line of carts while working at Wal-mart as a cart pusher. I went to the Er the first time they did not do any X-rays or anything they said "oh it's just bruised ribs gave me a prescription for pain medication and sent me home. I went back to work and almost collapsed I notified my employer and had my wife take me to a different Er where they did do xrays and they still said oh just bruised ribs. My wife was still not satisfied with the response so we scheduled an appt with my PCP who then sent me for some test. Those test came back fine. But I still continued to hurt so therefore my wife then took me to another Er and they still said the same thing went back to my PCP who sent me for more test and they all came back fine. Finally they done a cat scan of my entire body and the done an ekg those both came back fine as well. I then went for a stress test and it came back fine. But I am still hurting tremendously and the pain is getting worse. My wife believes that I have a heart condition because she has been researching this and all of the signs and symptoms that I have are related to heart attacks and strokes can someone please enlightened me on. What this can be. I am having severe chest pains, either on the left side right at the bottom of my ribs or right in the center of my chest. Sometimes these pains move down into my left shoulder and arm and my arm goes numb. Also at points and times I have pains in my neck, back, &  jaws. Shortness of breath, lightheadedness, fatique, pain just if my chest is touched. Also it bothers me at points and times when I am trying to take deep breathes and I lose my breath alot as well. Do I need to try to find a heart specialist or what?

This could be one of those times where patient knows best...try going in and just saying you feel like you are having a heart attack...and see what they say.  They are getting much better at doing a blood test and test for that pretty quickly.

I also am having some of the same problems, but I didn't have any kind of blunt force to my chest. The pain in my chest moves around, but it is never very harsh. Any kind of pain in your chest scares you though, right? I have been to the ER many times and have medical bills piled up to my chest, but all the doctors said that I was having panic attacks or anxiety issues. I have relieved my stress, but still I feel the pain that I was feeling before. I was referred to a heart doctor where they did an echocardiogram, which is a video of the inside of the heart at work. Everything seemed to check out okay, but still the pain is there. I can't afford the ER, so I'm not going anymore. Everyday life is harder and the pain is sometimes unbearable, but nobody seems to know what is wrong. I'm sorry I don't have any answers for your sickness, but I just thought that maybe I could share some of my similarities with you and you would know what to expect. I hope you find out what is wrong with you soon and everything turns out okay. Go ahead and see the Cardiologist, that is my only suggestion. If you have any questions or other things to talk about just email me at musikblaster@hotmail.com, because I probably won't be able to find this page again. Good luck!!!

Have they checked you for an aortic dissection? I have heard a lot of stories were they miss this in the ER, unless they specifically check for it with a CT Scan
