HI:  If a person has heart blockages, cholesterol buildup in the heart arteries, carotid arteries, or leg arteries- it is recommended to get the LDL cholesterol in the 50-80 mg/dl range.  Numerous large clinical studies have shown that lowering the cholesterol to this level can reduce the chances of a heart attack, stoke, or death.   Your LDL may be above this level and this is could be why your physician recommended cholesterol lowering medication.   And Zocor may have some improvement in you HDL.   Dr. Kirk Laman www.drlaman.com
