Q: I have arotic stenosis with a regurg of 39. Cardiologist calls this moderate to severe.

Hi ..I am 47, female, and very active.taught aroebics and exercise frequently....aerobically and with  weights.  I have a congenital bicuspid valve that is calcified with a regurgitation of 39.  On a treadmill, my BP drops at 150 bpm and iscehmic ECG changes are noted...however ...my only symptom is....I can not run full out for any distance.   I can teach an hour of aerobics with a sustained heartrate....no problem.  No sob, no syncope, only mild chest discomfort.  Only real symptom is arrythmia when I lie down and a pounding heart sensation at times.    I am now quite concerned and am going for a reeval in another month.  Question is....is it unusual to be so asymptomatic or perhaps I do have symptoms that I have had for so long that I consider them  "normal".  My voice becomes "tight " after exercise .  I sometimes cough to settle my heart rate down...  crazy or  are these symptoms related to my condition.  I had coarctation repair in 1966.  Considering valve replacement and have been keeping heart rate below 120 with NO cardio wokout.  Only light weights and slow bike and walk. Inactivity is not a good life style choice for me. Feeling the effects already.  Am I a candidate for surgery at my age with these symptoms or nonsymptoms??   Thanks !
