Q: I think I had a heart attack but I'm not sure.

Hi, I'm 20 yrs old and I believe I had a heart attack at work. I was nauseous, couldn't stand up, my neck and shoulders have been aching for about 3 weeks, at that time I had a shortness of breath that reoccurs every once in a while and my chest felt like it was going to explode. My friends told me to at least go see a doctor and so I did. She told me that I had anxiety. She gave me an EKG, chest x-ray, and a few blood tests. The EKG and chest x-ray came out fine but the blood tests showed I had an elevated blood level of protein and wanted me to come back for further testing. Just to let you know I also have hypothyroidism; I had hyper but we treated it with radioiodine. I was at 100 MCGs but when I heard that I had "anxiety" even though I still felt like my heart was bursting I decided to bring myself up to 144 MCGs. It helped a little but I still get that feeling of shortness of breath from time to time. So what should I do?

Hi Ally,

I recommend discussing your treatment options with your physician at your next appointment after you learn the results of the upcoming tests.
