Q: What is a healthy state when we talk of lipid profile, please?

When the the lipid profile is well within the range and if the total cholesterol is below the minimum of the range, is there any need for concern?

Hi Rnrkrish,

Here are the recommendations of the American Heart Association:

Total cholesterol less than 200

HDL cholesterol at least > 40, ideally > 60

LDL cholesterol at least less than 130, ideally less than 100

Triglycerides less than 150

Even if lipid profile results meet these guidelines there is still potential for concern.  The only way to know if your lipid profile is healthy is by learning your LDL and HDL particle sizes.  One option for learning these levels is a comprehensive lipid profile, such as the Lipoprotein Particle Panel offered by Spectra Cell Labs.  I recommend discussing with your physician.

All the best,
