Study: Drug-eluting stents safer after heart attack

Boston researchers have found that drug-eluting stents are more effective than bare-metal stents for people who've suffered a heart attack. The study of data from 7,216 Massachusetts patients found that those implanted with a drug-eluting stent after suffering a myocardial infarction had a five-percent better chance of the diseased artery remaining open than those who received bare-metal stents. This is the largest study yet comparing the two types of stents. Read more »
