FDA orders drug-label change for Aranesp, Procrit

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ordered a safety-related label change for the anemia meds Aranesp and Procrit. Both drugs are often prescribed for cancer patients who are experiencing treatment-related anemia, but the FDA says the drugs' risks may outweigh their benefits. The new labels will say that the drugs should not be used by patients who expect to be cured of cancer, nor by people whose hemoglobin levels are above 10 g per deciliter of blood. Read more »
