German researchers say they have found a genetic link between the gum disease peridontitis disease and heart disease. Scientists have known that having the gum disease was a risk factor for heart disease, but they did not know how they were linked. Now researchers at the University of Kiel have found a common genetic mutation in people who have both gum and heart disease.
