Study: Statins' protection is long-lasting

Researchers say cholesterol-lowering statins help prevent heart attacks for at least a decade after people stop taking them. Scientists studied two groups of men for 10 years, one that was given statins and one given a placebo. Men in the study who had taken statins during the study had a 25-percent lower risk of heart attack or death from heart disease than those who did not take the meds. Read more »
