Brain hemorrhages from Coumadin on the rise

The rates of brain hemorrhages in people taking the anticoagulant Coumadin quintupled in the 1990s, new data suggests. Researchers also found that when people over the age of 80 took Coumadin, the rates of brain bleeding increased tenfold. The study's authors suggest that doctors should be cautious about prescribing the stroke-prevention drug, especially to elderly patients. Read more »
