Medicine may be prescribed for:

  • High blood pressure
  • Cholesterol problem

Surgery to remove the plaque from the carotid (neck) arteries may be needed, especially ifmore than 70% of the carotid artery is blocked. The procedure is calledcarotid endarterectomy.
